I droidi replicanti umanoidi, o DRU, erano sofisticati robot ricoperti di sintepelle, progettati per essere praticamente indistinguibili dagli esseri umani. Spesso, la loro struttura interna rispettava così fedelmente l'anatomia umana che anche scanner medici di alta qualità potevano fallire nell'identificarli come inorganici, nonostante fossero capaci di rilevare altre differenze. Talvolta erano chiamati "droidi in carne" o "cloni droidi", ma - diversamente dai veri cloni - un clone droide poteva essere prodotto in meno di tre mesi.
