Regioni Ignote, Spazio Ignoto, Settore Ignoto o Territori Ignoti erano tutti appellativi usati per indicare le aree del disco galattico non ufficialmente mappate. E' opportuno sottolineare che tali territori differivano dallo Spazio Selvaggio, poiché questo era innanzitutto un anello esterno e non un'area in larga parte interna alla Galassia stessa; inoltre, esso era esplorato a macchia di leopardo, al contrario delle Regioni, che erano veramente ignote.

L'esistenza delle Regioni Ignote può essere interpretata in almeno due modi:

  • come aree non connesse al reticolo di rotte iperspaziali affidabili o ben note e pertanto irraggiungibili;
  • come territori che non erano sotto l'egemonia della Repubblica Galattica prima della Guerra Civile Galattica.

Qualunque sia il motivo, le ragioni profonde che spieghino l'isolamento di questa regione dal resto della Galassia restano sconosciute.
